Dear Sir/ Madam,

My name is Sayan Datta and I am writing on behalf of my father Mr. Sujit Kumar Datta to whom the following incident occurred. He is a resident of Flat No. 3 A, Block E, Ideal Abasan, Narayanpur, Narendranagar, Rajarhat, Kolkata – 700136. This letter is a complaint against ABP Vendor Ramkrishna Chakraborty. Let me get to the point without mincing words.
We have an annual subscription for ‘Anandabazar Patrika’ alongwith ‘The Telegraph’; so the entire amount has been already paid beforehand. On 20th of October, 2017, the newspapers did not arrive at all. The vendor did not care to answer our calls the entire day! The matter was informed to our representative Mr. Alok Mukherjee (Mobile No. 8013094839). A complaint was also lodged through Ananda Bazaar Helpline( 033-22129840) that very day ( SR No. 8000283246).But we have not received any feedback on our complaint as of date. Two days later when the vendor was confronted in person, he walked away saying “Oh that! I was sick that day” carelessly and unapologetically as he left. So he got away with not delivering the newspaper for which we had paid in advance and that too without any proper explanation or apology.
This however is not the main reason why we are writing the complaint. Today, i.e, 29th October, 2017, the newspaper hadn’t arrived even by 8:45 AM! So, my father had called the vendor up asking about the delay and as to when he would come. To my father’s astonishment and shock, he answered “Why do you keep calling up all the time! Don’t you know today is Sunday!” and gave no further explanation. The exact tone of his voice is impossible to convey in written form, but please take my word for it that it was the most uncivilized behavior we had seen and was directed in such a way as to make it seem that we had somehow become the guilty party by merely asking for our newspaper for which we had already paid in advance! My father is retired and touching 70 years of age. He is a cardiac patient and has a pacemaker installed near his heart. Eventually when the vendor did arrive and was confronted by us, he had no repentance whatsoever and began to argue illogically with us. He simply refused to acknowledge that he had misbehaved with an elderly customer without any provocation and left in a huff. His ‘devil may care!’ attitude and unruly behavior shook my father so much that he started to feel uneasy. It was only after we had calmed him down that he started to feel better.
We have communicated the above incident to Mr. Alok Mukherjee as well as to the Anandabazar Helpline.
We are middle-class working people and deal with numerous people daily. We know that people from different cross-sections of the society act in different ways and so we do not take umbrage easily. But this incident made us feel insulted and slighted. Such vendors reflect badly on such a reputable organization as the ABP and the way they conduct business.
We would like the vendor to be changed. Proper action in this regard is highly solicited.
